Get to know: Olyvia

Hi everyone! Here are a couple fun facts about me:

• I am the third child out of four girls
• I graduated from Oklahoma State in December of 2022, where i played soccer for four years and got my Bachelor's in Applied Exercise Science
• I love to cook, play pickleball, play card games, and be active
• I got married June 3, 2021 to my best friend Braden Herman
• I love spending time with my family 
• I LOVE THE LORD!!

The reason I wanted to start blogging was to be more intentional. More intentional with my time with the Lord and more intentional with setting aside time to talk to my mom and continue our relationship despite being in different seasons of life. I want to use my free time reflecting on past, present, and future experiences in order to encourage myself and hopefully others. Too many times I catch myself scrolling through social media or watching Netflix mindlessly instead of dedicating my time to more productive things. This blog is more of an outlet for my mind and something I want to look back upon and see growth through. I will be reflecting on being a student-athlete, my faith, getting married at such young age, my struggles, and just life in general!

 Fun facts about me:

• I am married to Jimmy Dowell for 29 years
• I am the middle child
• I recently joined a running group (AND LOVE IT)
• I am a Middle School teacher with experience in Special Education and RtI
• I am the mom to FOUR girls
• I love cooking
• I enjoy spending time in the Word every day(working on reading the entire Bible)
• I am a lifelong learner!!!

I came into this blogging idea after a sermon on fasting.  During the sermon, the pastor challenged us to look for other ways to apply fasting in our lives. I began to think about how I used my time.  And quite honestly?  Too much of it was wasted on scrolling through social media outlets. Olyvia and I began to text back and forth about the message and she, before even hearing that Sunday’s message, had begun to feel an urging from the Holy Spirit to begin a blog. She suggested that I think about joining her.  After praying and seeking out other people who use blogging for different purposes in their life.  I too, thought this would be a great way to spend time with my daughter and use my time more responsibly.  My desire is to write about my experiences as a mom, teacher, runner and Christ-follower.  And along the way, document those things in hopes of planting something that people intentionally want to read. My prayer has been since the beginning of this, that my words be His words and although this will be challenging to share and fit into my busy schedule, that I will press in to what God has for me and impart it with grace and transparency to others going through similar struggles.
